If you're thinking NFL, thanks for proving my point. We don't need an NFL mentality to grow the game. We're doing it our way and it's working.
He just said an NFL environment. When you start to bring mainstream NFL fans and season ticket holders into soccer stadiums you should expect changes.

So FIFA just put mics by a section of US fans? Weird.
ESPN would, yes.

I want to know how those people from Ghana afforded to go to the World Cup. Seems like they had quite a few people in the crowd
Not every African country is poor but they had a more than expected turnout. Also seemed like the locals were pro Ghana.

It was still amazing to hear US songs coming through the TV so loud and clear from a tournament across the world. Something unimaginable even 5 years ago.
Yup you could hear I believe loud and clear. I doubt we had 20k in there but 12-15k looked about it but they were loud as hell.

Well ESPN does not control the feed, so there is that. Our fans where just that loud.

Well ESPN does not control the feed,
They aren't producing the event for the US?
And regardless, they are going to have microphones around the crowd to pick up the sounds of the stadium.

No they piggy back sound and video. The only thing ESPN controls is their commentators, on screen graphics for espn and what's in the studio. All the replays, change in cameras etc is not ESPN.

No they don't. If any fan bases got this type of treatment it would be Brazil and England.

Gotcha.
Every sporting event I've been to on major TV networks has mics at field level positioned towards the crowd and in locations where a specific group of fans will be. I don't see why each WC stadium wouldn't have these as well for all games.

Yeah, I was about to post that ESPN has jack all to do with the broadcast production and feed.
FIFA secures "distributors" in all the different countries and they control the productions set up.
They have over 400 broadcast distributors - each different network doesn't have their own cameras and mics - that would be a clusterfrick.
See this cameraman? He has on a FIFA vest, not ESPN, not ITV, not BBC, not ABC, etc.
FIFA's info about Broadcaster Servicing
FIFA info about their production facilities

And they have mics for crowd noise:

During the World Cup tournament, production company Host Broadcast Services (HBS) is using wireless and wired microphones from Sennheiser — including the new Esfera surround microphone system — to capture stadium amosphere as realistically as possible and provide the matches with commentaries and pitchside reports.

Clearly or you wouldn't hear anything.
But they don't set them up in front of supporters sections.

No shite.
But you said ESPN would place mics specifically in front of the US section in rebuttal to someone who remarked that the US Outlaw chants were loud and clearly heard.
You were trying to play down the fact that the crowd chants were really loud by saying that it was only because of mics that "ESPN" put in the American Outlaw section.
You were wrong. The AO section showed up and were loud and it had nothing to do with the mics.
Go back to arguing about thread titles with TN Bhoy.

Why on earth would they not?
Granted, I've never been to a WC game but any CFB or CBB tournament game where fans have defined sections there will be mics in their primary locations of each group at field level.
I'd be quite surprised if FIFA doesn't take advantage of this.

I said ESPN as I assumed they had broadcasting rights for the US games. I was wrong. I didn't realize FIFA has a broadcasting arm, although it makes sense.

I was offering up a reason why it was so audible. Just like people post on TD after LSU away games going "Wow we were LOUD in Tuscaloosa!!" Also Zealot said for the group there they were audible but not over the top.

Y'all really need to stop getting so defensive. I watched the game today. Heck, I even DVR'd it so I could watch the part I missed driving home from work. Just because I'm not overly apologetic doesn't mean I hate the sport.

Pointing out you are wrong =/= defensive.

I'm talking about the TN Bhoy comment. And if you replace ESPN with FIFA I'd have the same stance.
