I freaking hate Putin but I don't see anyone backing him down. I'm honestly curious what Navy is seeing. Don't care who's dick is bigger. Don't care how the bet is executed. Don't even care who's right. Just want to know on what Navy is basing his premise that Putin will give back Crimea.

we have nothing to back him down with. We're trillions in debt (to china no less) and we'll never again enter into direct conflict with another superpower (god I hope not) nor indirectly (which we can't afford to do anyway)
So what, sanctions...a dog bites when he's cornered. We placed sanctions on japan, they bombed our entire pacific fleet to hell.
Diplomacy is the only way, and dear leader isn't equipped for this. This might be the one time I will pine for the days of Dubya. An idiot to be sure, but one that projected strength and power. Obama pulling the "wrong side of history" card on Putin doesn't inspire much confidence in this administration's ability to squash this through diplomacy while not conceding territory to Russia.

Putin will not give Crimea up short of all out war with the West.
It would be like the U.S. giving up Texas to Mexico. Except Crimea has a much longer history as part of Russia than Texas does as part of the U.S.
Plus Crimea is a significant military base for Russia. Out of it Russia can control the Black Sea.
