We are extremely deep at safety. He's going to be on special teams. Maybe step in late in some blowout games but that's about it this year.
We didn't draft a player just for special teams IMO. While we are deep at safety, I think we see promise in him. I think he's sees some snaps here and there as the season progresses. There is unfortunately going to be an injury that makes Byrd, KV, or Bush miss time. Just too great of odds of that happening.

He really started to turn things up and look like a great S at bama before he got injured. Which is why it was a little surprising he came out this year.
With our free agent and draft picks, looks like Rob Ryan is focusing on the thing that will make this defense the best in the league: turnovers.
Byrd is a proven commodity at forcing turnovers from the S position. Sunseri showed that he has potential for that in college. He will get beat if he plays significant time, but if he can force a few turnovers, that is acceptable. One of the reasons I think Patrick Robinson will excel in this defense. He took too many risks as a young corner without good safety help. He did manage to create turnovers though. With a lockdown corner on 1 side and 3 great safeties, I think he'll excel in the Nickle or DB#2 role

Look at how deep Seattle's defense is at each position. Sherman went down, they still dominated. Browner was out, still dominated. KJ Wright was out, relatively shut down jimmy graham/middle of the field.
Only thing we haven't seen is extended periods of time where KC and ET were missing.
Either way, nice to have quality depth and be like seattle rather than atlanta's hot mess.
