Debbie Does Doberge: LINK / very sweet, typical layered doberge
Cake Cafe: LINK / does a nice red velvet, w/cream cheese frosting
Gracious Bakery: LINK the southern pecan is freakin' awesome
I also like the fresh fruit chantilly cake from Chez Pierre in Kenner; LINK /
it is a quality cake, very pretty, and a tad cheaper than comparable cakes (ie, a big 12" 3-layer cake was $50).

it might not be "The Best" but the Chantilly cake from Robert's is DAMN GOOD. better than the similar one from Whole Foods, IMHO.
$30 and worth every penny.
