lawnmower troubles

I have a craftsman with a b&s 7.0 engine. Have had problems before with the carb and has been fixed under warranty. Well warranty has expired and am having carb problems again... i think. So i disassembled the carb today and cleaned it well. Got the mower running and it stayed running for about an hour. Long enough to cut the front yard. So i stop and take a break and come back out after about 15 min. And.... mower not starting again. Gas is leaking fromthe air filter. Replaced the spark plug today as well. Any idea where to go from here ?? Replace the float and the needle in the carb ??

Flooded carb?

So how do u keep it from flooding ?

Choke may be stuck? Clean the choke linkage? Are you getting spark to the plug when it floods out? Squirt some carb/choke cleaner in the carb and see if it fires. And if it doesn't fire, use the carb/choke cleaner and kill some boring bees whilst you've got the spray can in your hands.

Usually it's something very simple. Hope you didn't damage the diaphragm when you took the carb apart. Busted diaphargm will cause it to flood out. See if the choke will actually open and close. And try to start the motor with the plug wire off the plug and see if you've got spark on the plug wire. I'm figgering you know how to check the spark.
Might have bad gas? Water in the gas? Old gas? I'd run 100% gas in it and stay away from the ethanol mixture.

Sounds like it isn't a spark plug problem. Your flooding somehow. Like suggested the diaphragm may be the issue. When it won't start, spray some carb starter in it and let it run for a while. When you shut it down, watch the filter again

I had this generator once that took a notion to not start. Had gas, had spark, choke was working, carb cleaner would fire it up, and then it would die. I pulled on that starter rope till I was about to puke and then pulled some more. Got a sore back, blisters on my hand, and invented a few new cuss words for emphasis. Then I set down on the ground to contemplate which method I was gonna use to blow up the generator and saw that the fuel petcock valve was closed.

Recheck all the screws and see if they're tight. Could have worked loose while mowing and it's sucking air. If all else fails, page Meauxjeaux or however he spells it!

You mean with all those refineries in Houston, those folks can't get 100% gas? Would never have figured on that. I've got 5 stations here in our area of Virginia that sell 100% gas.

sounds to me like the little needle that the float is attached to is sticking...might take a carb kit to fix it...
one thing you need to be sure of is that gasoline has not run into the crankcase oil...if it is flowing out of the air filter, some may be running back into the crankcase...just check the oil level to be sure it hasn't risen...
once the carb problem is ironed out, I would change oil....

Yeah, this makes sense, too. And after I got it started, I'd SeaFoam the heck out of it.
