Not a big race fan, but holy crap that gave me chills watching. Its unbelievable how every time you would think there's no way he can gain anymore, he's just picking up huge chunks of track on everyone else. He seemed to keep getting faster. Unbelievable. Thanks for the link

Of course it matters. With a full field he could have been trapped behind or between some other horses and not have been able to break free.
