Is it possible some of that has been by design? The Spur's will usually surrender the mid-range jumper before they will leave the hoop. Having a fairly quick "center" that is reliable from mid to long range seems like I good idea against the Spurs.

Possibly, but again if Bosh is not hitting those (see Games 1-3 against Indiana), against the Spurs it will cost Miami.

And honestly, I don't think the Spurs will play defense they did the same way last year. I can't see them just leaving Lebron or Wade open mid range shots and having the same success that they did in last years Finals.
