Uber is pretty prevalent in NYC. I'll hail a yellow cab unless I'm going to the airport at odd hours of the night or it's flooding, but cars are everywhere and tons of people use it.
Edit: Uber is noticeably more expensive here...apparently its not like that elsewhere.

Uber is already changing the industry. It's all we use.

I remember cabs being fairly cheap in NYC or at least I expect them to be more. Taxi in Dallas is Houston are not cheap
