Cali is f'n awesome. Would move back in a heartbeat, hope to soon.

SLO is sorta a no man's land but the Central Coast is nice, it's just not SoCal or the Bay and that's where everything reverberates from out there. It'd be a slower pace which actually might be extremely nice.

You'll have to travel to see shows and entertainment options but you'd be 1/2 between SF and LA so that could be a plus. One bad thing is the Bakersfield trash goes to the Beach in that area so be prepared for that.

I was born in So. CA but raised in San Fran. I have lived in Louisiana for 32 years (thought I would only be here for a few years of grad school). There is a lot to love about CA (ocean, desert, mountains, redwoods, etc.) but I will not be moving back. Building our new home in WA...too many people in CA. That said, SLO is amazing and is one of the few cities I would consider moving to. If you can afford it, do not miss out on the opportunity...congrats to the OP.
