Pretty shitty statement. I know plenty of people who came from affluent families who joined. I wanted to, but medical reasons stopped recruiters from even spending the time to talk to me.

My motivation was that I wouldn't mind the extra GI Bill $, and thought it would be fun and a challenge to see how far I could push myself
