This is the most likely scenario. It'll start in physical extremities (it already has), then move to sensory functions, then memory and deeper into the brain. There will be luddites drawing lines in the sand at every step but they'Ll be minorities. The end result will probably be human consciousness on computer hardware. Ray Kurzweil (sp?) is a great read for some cool thoughts and predictions on it, predictions made over ten years ago at that.

This.

There's criticism from different angles on his "predictions" but that's to be expected. He has some interesting TED talks as well.

ETA: There's a reason he's the director of engineering at Google.

This will cause conflict between my significant other and me. I'll be happy to jump into the Matrix. She's a luddite and I can tell you right now she won't go for any of that shite.
