What's the point of the USMNT failing without Donovan to you? It's not like Klinsmann or the next head coach will realize U.S. Soccer is doomed to fail without him and will call him in for another tournament.
Failing at the WC to make some point doesn't make sense because the point won't lead to anything but you being "right."

What are you talking about? Klinsmann is arrogant enough to think that his bullshite "statements" are enough to make the team advance. Of course his "statements" are basically the equivalent of bringing honor students from upper middle class families to a Scared straight prison intervention.
He is bringing a sub-optimal team to 2014. That sucks. That's my only point. Donovan is obviously not going to be a part of the squad in 2018.
2018 is a different cycle, and there's no reason to bring players along who are expected to be good in 2018 so they can gather splinters in 2014.
