Carolina away game/trip

I'm starting to plan my away game for the upcoming season, and it's looking like Carolina is the best fit. I wanted to get some opinions on people who went there before, and from anyone on here who lives/lived there.
Where's the best area to stay? I booked a room at the Marriott City Center, which is pretty close to the stadium. Is this area close to bars, restaurants, downtown, things to do, etc?
Anyone been to the National Whitewater Center? My friends and I were looking at maybe renting some bikes and hitting the trails there.
I figured we would arrive Thursday morning (Thursday night game), and we would stay until Sunday. Since it's Halloween weekend, there should be some things to do. I'm hoping to catch a Hurricanes game that weekend as well.
Any opinions or suggestions on things to do/over all experience is greatly appreciated.

Stay away from strip clubs there they rip off new customers and the marriot center is nice. Go to the nascar hall a fame it's worth the money.

The Marriott is the perfect place to stay! You are only a few blocks from the stadium, some good restaurants, and a mall that has a bowling alley, restaurants, and some kickin' nightclubs! We didn't do much sightseeing though! We had such a great time that we're talking about going back!

The Whitewater Center is cool.
There are some bars uptown (Charlotte calls their downtown "uptown" for some reason), and you should be close to the Epicentre as well (complex with bars/restaurants/nightlife).
As far as other things to do, you can walk around NODA (cool neighborhood) and tour NODA brewery and Heist brewery (probably a ten minute drive from where you are staying. Also some good bars in Southend and southpark. Nice mall in Southpark if the wife is coming.
Pick up a Creative Loafing magazine (charlottes version of Offbeat/Gambit) when you arrive if you are interested in the music scene/want to catch a show somewhere.
Carowinds is an amusement park with some fun rollercoasters if your into that (not sure about their non summer schedule).

The hurricanes play in Raleigh btw, so you can scratch that from your to do list.
