Hmmm, well that was interesting. I can't say I loved it as much as the first, but it was definitely a solid follow-up. Sanderson clearly has one hell of an imagination. Overall thoughts:

-Probably a little slow for my taste. Granted this is coming from someone who enjoys Rothfuss's molasses pace, but it just seemed like this segment dragged a bit. I guess that's understandable given the entire book essentially revolves around a siege, but yea it was a tad slow.

-I did like that you see the turmoil that so often takes place when a system (even a ruthless, tyranical system) is removed. So othen the movie ends with the evil dictator overthrown and no thought to WTF we're gonna do now. This sort of reminded me of US occupation in the Middle East. Tyrannical, ruthless dictators rooted in religious lore being overthrown by a superior military force and a population not really knowing how to adjust. Thought that was pretty interesting.

-Really think this book needed more of the Lord Ruler's presence. I hope they're able to delve into his origins more in the third. He was such an awesome character in the first, it sucks he had to go so quickly. The story needs a central antagonist. The mists or "the deepness" are too vague and Straff/Cett were solid but nothing near the Lord Ruler.

-I was really nervous Zane was gonna turn this storyline into some awful Vampire/Warewolf teenybopper love triangel, but in the end I liked his addition to the story. I did, however, think his death was total and utter bullshite. She concentrated really hard and only reacted so she saw him seeing her move and thus adjusted her swing? That's ridiculous and makes no sense. It didn't say alumium or whatever the metal is called shows what you think you're going to do. It says it shows what you're going to do. Thus it would have shown him that she was going to change direction. They shoulda found a better way to kill him.

-OreSeur was an awesome addition to the crew, can't wait to see what actually happens to one of these kandras when they're "destroyed". I did, however, think they were a little non-shalant about not knowing who the kandra in the crew was. Seems like they were awful "o well, we'll find out when we get around to it" about the whole thing. Granted Idk if I ever would have suspected OreSeur, but I would have been a man on a mission to find out.

-Per the usual, Sazed is a total BAMF. I think his character's possibilities are endless. I also think he has to know something about this Well and its possibilities. Him sending Vin and Elend away makes zero sense. They have established that these Koloss don't attack in coordinated methods and don't work together. If Vin is in beastmode with unlimited metals she could definitely just stay on the outskirts and kill the whole damn army. I think he had to know something.

-Totally forgot about Marsh. I really hope they go into whatever happened to him in that temple that's turned him into this freak. He seems like he's in the same state as the koloss. He's being controlled but still aware of his thoughts, to an extent. Also, in the dumbest most reoccuring sequence in every fictional work of all-time, when you knock the badguy out, KILL HIM INSTEAD OF RUNNING AWAY YOU IDIOTS! I'm sure Marsh is going to recover and wreck shite on our crew next book.

-The Well scene was surprising. Seems this power is something the Lord Ruler was supressing and fighting constantly and Vin released it? I'm going to assume this is initially seen as a bad thing and everything goes to hell, but in the end the only way to truly defeat whatever this evil is will be to release it as opposed to containing it so we shall see if Vin is able to do this.

-I assume the mists and the ash is about to get out of control. This is something I'm curious about as well. No one seems to discuss or mention the connection between the mists and the ash. Maybe it's so natural for them to assume that ash falls from the sky in their world, but I'm hoping they expand upon why this is the case.

Third book is going to be insane! So much shite has to happen! Again, thanks to all who recommended it!

He comes out of nowhere and becomes just a great sidekick character. More to come on him.

didnt read your post for fear of spoilers, but I just finished the 2nd book. didnt enjoy it as much as the first. still awesome though. i'm excited to see what elend will be like as a mistborn. sucks losing clubs, he was a favorite of mine. Dockson seemed to be written out almost, so losing him was fine. The kandra thing fooled me, as I had really grown to like "Oreseur" and his relationship with Vin and didnt even think of him...I'm excited to see what will happen in the 3rd book, it should be here tomorrow, so I will try to resist reading this thread until I finish.
