The concept of downloading music is becoming antiquated. More individuals are subscribing to streaming services such as Spotify, Rdio, Google Music, and various others, as your entire music collection is available on any device with an internet connection.
As this trend continues, iTunes and iPods become increasingly irrelevant. Data connections are becoming pervasive, transferring music is cumbersome, and no one wants to pay for each and every song they download.
This purchase gives Apple an instant presence in this market.
