There's a huge difference.
There is a difference. It makes total sense that the NBA would protect its own interests.
Having said that, the latest stories on this is that the NBA players demanded the move and that they threatened to strike if it didn't happen. In that light, I think the OPs point is meaningful.

All of this is correct. The problem comes in as to what constitutes offensive speech these days and the very narrow and selective words or speech that gets one in trouble. If for instance, in Mr. Sterlings conversation the words black man, would have been substituted for, Christian man, or right wing man, or most any other type man, nothing would have been said.
