I subscribed to this thread during the first build and caught up in the last couple of days. I have to say I'm impressed and amazed by the talent and craftsmanship on display. I am also humbled by the hospitality and mentoring associated with these builds.
I consider myself a hobbyist woodworker and have made several rudimentary objects around the house that my wife allows me to keep around. I would like to build one of these sometime in the future for me and my boys to enjoy. They are 7 year old (twins) cub scouts and love the outdoors. Unfortunately they don't share my interest in woodworking.
I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind. I'd like to build the 13' 6" version and was curious if you've ever made one a 3-seater? I'm not a large man, hell im not even medium I top out at 160 and my boys together currently weigh about 100 so weight isn't an issue. Second, is there a 3rd build on the horizon? I don't know if I could swing an entire weekend so I'd have to figure that part out on my end.
I'd appreciate any feedback you have and thanks again for sharing your skills with others.

Royal, it's been a long time I read this thread. I been thinking of a third build if there is enough people that want to build. Maybe some time in April.
To answer your question on one with 3 seats and only 13'6". I would not do that due to placement of the seats and trying to paddle it. You would be hitting one of your kids in the back of the head each time you swap sides to paddle.
Years ago, I did build one that was 15' for a guy that had twins like you. It worked out with three seats and being able to paddle it.
