Rent a place for a year in one of these places to get a feel for the city and then make a decision to purchase.
Where is a good place to look for rentals?

Same neighborhoods we listed. Check zillow and craigslist. I have found great places using both.

Or you can call a local real estate agent to help, thats how I found my current spot.

The Burbs are nice and are cheap, but if you want to experience REAL Nashville for a year before purchasing a home, I'd suggest renting within the city.

Sylvan Park, East Nashville, Germantown, Greenhills, 12 South, etc. are all great areas in Nasville. Families would be perfect for Sylvan Park, some parts of East Nashville, Greenhills, and 12 South (Hillsboro village as well).
