Not that I don't dig movies that this happens in (Oliver Platt/Executive Decision being exhibit A) but the "I didn't sign up for this" braniac nerd who finds his inner badass has been played relentless.

women who can outfight highly trained men

They are running this into the ground. Sure, a young karate chick could probably kick my arse but put her up against a comparably trained young man and he'd kill her.

the very helpful Muslim in any movie involving the potential for terrorism, where the terrorist usually turns out to be a disgruntled white guy

pretty much any conservative comes off as a cartoon character

The Rock-Stanley Goodspeed

All of The Librarian movies-Flynn Carsen

Independence Day-David Levinson

They try to portray Jack Ryan as something similar in the Clancy book movies.

I like all of these but they are the type movies where you know what's going to happen. Using the name "Stanley Goodspeed" makes Cage's character the worst of the ones' listed.
