I didn't think it was that bad of a hit. Arm was down, wasn't trying to hit the head, right skate (the skate closest to the opposing player) was still on the ice. A suspension shouldn't be needed.

He will get suspended. Principle point of contact was made with the head during an illegal check (interference) actual penalty on the ice was charging but the puck was on the stick of an opposing player 5 feet or more away at the time of the hit. Its up to the person delivering the hit to be responsible for the point of contact outside of a player losing an edge etc along with making sure that the hit is delivered in a legal hockey play ( not late, not too many strides etc)

These are the hits the league wants to get rid of in the game. If this were a Blues player that delivered that hit I would expect them to be suspended and wouldn't be making excuses for that type of hockey.
