Gaston, I really think you are stuck in some kind of mid 1980's state of mind. Not sure why all of the butthurt, but this state needs these jobs and you really seem to be uninformed over how good most of these jobs are.
These permanent full time labor guys in alot of instances in the plants will have salaries of $50-65K a year and with experience and overtime are making over $100K. These jobs come with outstanding bennefits too.
Yes the safety and environmental records were kind of shitty 20 plus years ago. These companies are under a microscope now and are a whole different animal than they used to be.
I know of a refinery in south La that just went through a turnaround over over 900K man-hours and did not have one recordable injury.
And lets not forget that the people that build these plants make some pretty damn good $$$ too.
