The hog outweighs the pit by at least 125 pounds. It's got a huge hide and a comparable temper to a Pit and is much stronger. How the hell do you plan to take it on the side or from the back. The pit at least makes its only real vulnerable spot vulnerable when it tries to attack you, and if I have a rock in the other hand, I could probably manage to bash its skull open. Not so for the hog.

If you know what you are doing a hog is not that difficult to take down. If you watch the people that know what they are doing they grab the hind legs and flip it on its side. If you can do this you are golden.

I grew up trapping and cutting hogs.

A hog charges and tries to hit you one or two times then retreats which allows you to catch him by the back legs. You can move out of his way pretty good because hogs typically won't keep chasing.

They charge and retreat and are more defensive.

The pit steadily comes after you on the offensive and once he locks on he is bringing you down to the ground and he ain't gonna retreat.

Also, hogs don't sweat and can overheat very fast.

I've seen this fight played out on Hog hunts as a kid. Hog by TKO. No contest if dog is unarmored. Hog eviscerates the dog with a tusk slash to the gut. Pits are mean but hogs are dog killing machines.
