My household has been essentially Paleo for two years, and it's not hard to follow at all. We don't lose weight, cause we don't need to.
IMO, most people who lose weight on paleo do so because they have trouble eating as many calories as they previously did (food tends to be more satiating with less calories).
We've seen a ton of benefits, from strength, recovery, sleep, stress, immunity, etc.
The biggest difference for me: I used to be the guy who HAD to have healthy snacks through the day, or I'd get ravenous and irritable. Now, I eat a large paleo meal with a bunch of protein, fat, and veggies, and I'm good for most of the day.

If you're just trying to lose weight just give up bread and try to eat as little potatoes and sugar as possible. That's what I've done and I'm down almost 15 pounds in a month.
I still drink 5-6 nights a week too but I'm pretty young.
