Izzy, who was introduced in Issue #1 of Avengers Vol. 5, is a young college Astronomy student who is highly intelligent and grew up on a farm in Iowa where she lives with her grandfather. Her grandfather, as it turns out, is an old ally of Captain America's. While Marvel did some maneuvering with the last name and later turned it to Kane, Izzy's original last name, and the last name of her grandfather, was Dare. That would make her grandfather Dan Dare, aka Captain Terror, a masked WWII hero.
