We did and it was a calculated gamble. I thought it was a bad gamble because he had too much film on him for someone not to see starting potential in him.

That said, we were slammed against the cap at that point and it seems they were squeezing.

My guess is they felt good about being able to get Byrd all along though, and the Ball signing happened too close to this for that not to have been a plan B.

The question is what does the offer look like and will the Saints match. If it's in the $2.5m, we actually lose money on the cap if we match as opposed to just giving him the 2nd round tender in the first place. That was my main problem with the decision is that it was too easy to get screwed over one way or another with it.
