The HFT story has been around for over 1/2 of a decade. Why all the fuss now? JMO, but I think our beloved .gov is going to make a concerted push for transaction taxes.
Personally, it is disgusting to me the amount of bids that are cancelled. I think that the system can be tweaked to handle this issue without totally crushing HFT.
