The lake was dredged before, took a couple of years if I remember correctly, back in the mid 80's. They pulled tons and tons of cypress from the lake and stored it where the condo's are across from Baton Rouge Beach is. After completion they opened up the park, stocked the lakes with Florida bass, bluegill and striped bass. I think channel cats were added as well. The lake thrived for years, you could catch stripers at the run out between the two lakes at night. I probably landed 10 bass over 5 pounds beating the banks in the spring. They had a large hole about 15' deep near the bird sanctuary I would fish during the summer and winter by boat. It held a ton of fish but it silted back in.
