The MLB draft is far from the jackpot for players that the NFL and MLB drafts are.
The MLB draft goes on for 40 rounds, while the NBA draft is 2 rounds and the NFL draft is 7 rounds. Players also make far less on the minimum full-season contract in MLB than they do in the NBA (roughly $400K vs. about $800K), though the NFL's minimum salary of roughly $300K is lower.
That being said, minor leaguers make much less than that. Compensation for minor leaguers is capped at $1100 a month, or roughly $13.2K, in their first season. There are also signing bonuses for draft picks, with the minimum being $10K, but adding that $10K to $13.2K is still obscenely low in comparison to other leagues.

Nobody plays all sports now like some of us used to do. You used to play football in fall, basketball in winter, and baseball in spring/summer.
Now you pick ONE sport, specialize in it, and play it year-round.
Also, you have competition from other sports too. Soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, etc. pull many kids where I live. This is a new development around here, except for maybe soccer.

Exactly, only the top 60 players get drafted. In baseball, there are still 8 more rounds to go where top 10 round draft picks make good money.
