All unicorns and rainbows. The Mexican drug lobby and the bloods and crips union will never allow for legalization
One of the dumber arguments in the debate is how if we legalized weed that the cartels would cease to exist and violence would die down.
They would just find other things to smuggle.
Drug Cartels are far too big and aren't just going to give up all they have and relinquish everything just because marijuana is legal in the US.
Use the gay lobby as an example. Will they just give up and cease to exist once gay marriage is legal in all 50 states? No, they will find another issue to wedge because the gay lobby is far too big and too much money/power is involved. Same with cartels. They will find something else.

Well, organized crime and prohibition is a much better example, but the Gays are the "red herring du jour".......

What created the cartels? Go back and look at the original prohibition and see what happened, and how we haven't learned shite from it. Sure they'll find other enterprises, but allowing them to continue their violent stranglehold on the drug trade because of ignorance isn't helping anything.
Can't see how any fiscal "conservative" would be for the war on drugs. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
