I was wondering the 2 point conversion. Why go for 1 from the 20 when you can just go for 2 from the 3 yard line.

Its just about the evolution of the sport and never staying static, staying static = no growth.

Of course it is.

.9 x 1 = .9
.5 x 2 = 1

Unless there is a strategic reason where you only need 1 point, then go for 2. Take the extra points.

why do you think that this is stupid?

I think that it's freakin great.

I think they made something like 1300 out of 1301 this year anyway.

So what? Why does the nfl feel the need to change the game every year?

If you are a saints fan you should remember the death by pat

There is so much stupid in this thread. People don't know the difference between the cross bar and upright. 2pt conversation will still be from the 2 or 3 not the damn 20. READ PEOPLE!

change is ok in professional sports. I don't agree with all of it but, I doubt that the original "rule makers" were superior to the ones that are making the new rules.

if nothing changed, we would still be able to catch a fly ball after one hop and it would count as an out.

That only works mathematically over the course of a season. Not for every game.

For example, you might make 1 two-point conversion out of 5 attempts in one game, and then get 3/4 in another.

Over the course of a season it works out to about 50%, but are you going to win more games or lose more games because you go for 2 every time? In some cases, you'll lose some you should have won, and in others you may win some you should have lost.

I guess that's a point but it's nice knowing that soccer and baseball will be largely unchanged in 100 years. I can't say the same for football.

The reason I don't like the extra point being 20 yards away is this:

Games should be won and lost by scoring touchdowns and kicking field goals. Extra points and 2-point conversions should rarely be the decider of a game. Those things should be for more desperate situations.

Like how teams foul at the end of basketball games. Very rarely will a team win a game by fouling and shooting free throws. It's used in desperation.

Same with going for 2.

I don't want many games to be decided by extra-point kicking or 2-point conversion attempts. It's like winning a soccer match due to penalty kicks. It's stupid.

I'm not fan of games being decided by missed PATs, either.

This rule, in addition to being completely stupid and unnecessary, is a counterintuitive move by a league that has made player safety a priority. I don't get this at all.

I agree. Moving the XP changes the dynamic of a game that isn't broken.

evolution is something like replay being used not moving a kick back just because we feel like it.

change for the sake of not staying static is stupid. change should have a need, such as replay and tinkering with what is allowed to be reviewed. you don't see basketball moving the free throw line back or the height of goal up just because more people can dunk now.

It has become pointless, heck I wouldn't even call it a play its more like a ritual.
