I have a neighbor asking $1000 for a 5 year old Deere, and I was wondering what would be a fair price on this?
Thanks fellas.

A new replacement is MSRP $1699. Some of these cheaper mowers, people arent very up to date with maintenance, so Id be concerned about wear and tear

Would three years old make a difference? My wife misinformed me. He also lives in the same neighborhood, so if he sold me a lemon, things could get awkward. Also, we're in the same profession, so I think he'd shoot straight with me.

Things that need replacing: the rubber connectors to the tubes leading to the bag, seat pleather is cracked, and blades, which he replaces yearly. He reports annual oil changes over the past 3 years while cutting his own lawn and some of his rental properties.

The tractor was made in 2007 from what Im seeing for that model FWIW. I just get hesitant buying entry level small engine homeowner stuff. $1000 seems steep. price ranges Im seeing for people asking is $600 to 1100. But thats asking, not selling

I was going to take the advice ForeverLSU gave and offer $800. He also threw in an aerator and fertilizer attachment.
After doing some research, the LA models seem very basic, where JD wanted to compete with cheaper competitors. I generally like to purchase machinery like this new for the warranty and new ownership.
If you were in my shoes, would you buy this to cut about 0.5 acres over the next 10-15 years? If not, recommendations?
Thanks buddy.

its JD's entry level mower they sell at home depots and lowes.
Personally I'd buy a commercial walk behind in the 36" to 48" size. But if you need the aerator and fertilizer spreader, and something to pull a small yard trailer around, then this is your entry level item. You could also get a new one from another brand and probably be a safer choice

What engine? The one I have has a 17.5 Kohler on it and hasnt missed a beat with 580 hours. Not sure when they stopped using the Kohler engine. Wouldnt give more than 800.00 either way.
