had to undergo surprise audits every year or two.
Do you know how expensive and stupid that would be? Talk about being the opposite of small government.
I'm all for some major changes to most welfare, especially getting people off of it after a while. Just not sure your idea would be all that great from a cost effectiveness point of view.

True dat - I am all for smaller government and lower cost.
I would say - "let everybody get welfare" - so you don't have any paperwork at all.
All's you got to do is show up once every two weeks at a designated parking lot and wait for a big semi or two to pull in with basic food items;
canned meat,
canned vegetables,
powdered milk,
flour,
rice,
beans,
pork bellies,
ham hocks,
sugar,
etc.
Govt would set up a table and a couple guys would bring out a two week supply of what they got.
You would line up and wait your turn - when you got to the table, you would first have to go thru a skinny door opening to qualify for the free food.
Don't have to be poor, or minority, or disabled, or anything - if you want to spend your time in the line, you get the goods.
problem solved.
