Yeah, the harsh chemicals work best, but ya gotta be spot-on with your measures, calculations, and calibrations 
If my fields turned out like that picture, they'd kick me to the curb with the quickness
You can always just let the poa run its course and burn out with the heat, then apply your simazine this fall and you'll be golden for next spring.
