shite, for as bad as TJ performed, he steamrolled the SEC in the one year he had the horses. No one is saying that LSU should blow the whole thing up and fire CJJ. However, no one who watched this team this season can't say that this staff did a horrible job with this group
Horrible is a bit strong. This team slightly failed to meet expectations. The four close SEC road losses are what colors this perception. Split them and they are clearly a bubble NCAA team. Win three or all and everyone is talking about the magic Jones has created in two seasons.
The program is poised to launch, it is ready to step into Top 25 circles. If Jones and staff are as inept as some would claim then this is as good as it gets. The next two seasons should be a harbinger of what can be expected.

I can probably get on board with you there.

I'd probably put it this way. We lost at least 3 games we should not have...RI, Bama and A&M. We win those we are probably in. With all our faults and limitations those are 3 teams we are clearly better and showed up not prepared, uninspired and undisciplined and lost.
The other games...Ole Miss we should have won, but before the overtime I can live with the performance outside of the end of game shitting the bed.
Georgia, I can live with losing to them on the road, but not how we did.
Losing to Georgia at home. I still don't think that's a game we should lose at home....sorrry I just don't. But they were coached up as the year went along and we regressed.

The talentl is steadily improving. Inept I don't think is a term that's being used by very many and for those who are using it, yes it's a bit strong.
But as I said in another string, some red flags were raised this year that need to be addressed. If they are we can move forward and maximize the talent we're getting. If not you're gonna see more underachivement...and this year was without question and underachivement. We can debate to what degree but not the reality that it was.

Grade Johnny Jones' 2013-2014 season
I would give him a C. LSU had or has the talent to compete in the weak SEC this year. However I think he is recruiting well enough that the program is headed in the right direction. I think next year we will compete and we should make the NCAA tourney.

Way too early to give up on Johnny Jones.
I was following basketball in early 80s when Coach K got his start at Duke. His first three seasons were17-13, 10-17 and then 11-17, and Duke had been to the Tournament 3 straight years before he took over. Hard to say he was making great progress after those first 3 seasons. Duke alums were calling for his head.
I'll give Johnny a C, but if he gets win #20 on the road in SF, his grade goes to B-.
Good luck on west coast!
And frick all of you who don't like me wishing Johnny and Tigers good luck in San Francisco.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbirdtongue.gif)

I would say a C
This team was certainly somewhat overhyped from the start based on the incoming class. Still the inconsistency's were really what killed this team.

D because the things that I like about last year's team disappeared. Last year, the team had several late game comebacks and you felt like they never stopped fighting. Did not get that impression this year. Plus the team seemed to regress as the year continued.
Jones did a good job using the press last year. This year his stubborn determination to play zone cost us games at A&M and Arkansas. Go back and watch the film in those two games and see how many wide open looks we gave up playing zone in those two games. In game decisions were just bad.

I agree there is reason to raise red flags. Hopefully those are growing pains for the coaches just like the players.
No doubt there were losses that on paper should not occur. but, it is the nature of the game that teams inexplicably lose and at times inexplicably win. We did not have enough of the latter to offset the former, so it essentially came down about 6-8 games.
If they can retain all but Obryant this program likely takes the next step and wins most of those type games. Then we are looking at a 23-7 to 25-5 club, 12-14 SEC wins and a top 3 finish in the SEC. If not then the red flags will be flying at full mast.

C- to D+
We were good enough to get into the tourney
NIT is just unacceptable with the amount of experience and young talent.
