I comprehend the story. He took this girl out. Which means she's his date. And he's letting random guys come up to his date and ask for her number. In my opinion and apparently his too that makes him "a beta" in his words. He's still interested in this chick so his best chance is to make a move before the sax player does. Although the sax player could've lined something up tonight. And yeah, this girl probably has no interest in this guy if she's giving her number out while on a date with him. She also sounds like a bitch for doing that and I probably wouldn't try to go after her but he said he's possibly still interested.
