What CNN was saying was that DigiGlobe satellites probably have the ability to show much higher resolution. However, there is a US law that restricts them from publishing images over a certain resolution. That doesn't mean they don't have them or that they haven't shared higher res images with the searchers - they just can't show them in the media.

Unless there's some political gain to be had or Hollywood is making a movie then all bets are off.
