I took my little one when he was two. He sat on my lap some of the times, but he was okay. What I did the first couple of items was to go during an early show when attendance was at a minimum. It seemed to work out and he eventually got used to going watch movies and learning how to behave (almost) perfectly going forward.
Related story... when he was 3 or so, he saw the previews for African Cats and really wanted to see it. I took him one afternoon when I was off and there were literally like 3 or 4 other people in the theater. At one point, he got kinda scared so I put him in my lap. During the scenes with the cheetah mother losing her cubs, I heard a *sniff* *sniff* and then felt tears on my arms. We went play video games in the lobby after that!

Damn. That's pretty cool of a story. Kids always end up surprising me. One of the reasons I want to be a pediatrician.
