How does it affect US interests?

Russia is considered a foe of the United States. We are considered the leaders of the free world. If Russia, one of our biggest enemies, can march into a country and annex it with impunity, we look weak. That hurts us diplomatically and may affect our ability to do business in other places of the world where we have vested interests.
