Because unless you are prepared for American combat forces engaging Russian ones...on the Russian's home turf. Which no one in their right mind is interested in.
Realistically there isn't anything else Obama can be doing.
But it's be fun to watch all the asshats on this site complain about his perceived ineptness in this situation.

I think the things leading up to this can squarely be put onto Obama and his Executive Administration.
Not to say that what we were doing in previous administrations was great, but there are actions of the Obama Administration that COULD be attributed as a cause of this crisis.

I'd go a little further. Turn those warships into a carrier group, maybe two. Turn that squadron of F-18s in Poland into the headquarters of a brand new army division, home to about 20,000 American servicemen. I would also reinforce our bases in western Europe for good measure.
