Dish Network Connection Question

We use Dish Network and upgraded to a new DVR a while back. They ended up letting me keep the old box to use at remote locations. At the time they told me the old box had been deactivated and I would need to call to reactivate the box when I was ready to use it. At my request they did reactivate the box (supposed to have been temporarily) so I could try to transfer recordings to an external devise. I do not know if they ever deactivated it again.
Now I am in a place where I want to use the old box at a remote location. I pointed the dish as directed and actually began to acquire satellite signals (2 of 5). All of a sudden it quit acquiring signals. The station guide showed the status of one channel but nothing else.
Does anyone know if the unit will acquire the signals if the box is deactivated? Quite frankly, if they never deactivated the box I do not want to call them to verify it. It seems to me that if it picked up a partial channel guide it may still be activated.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Yep. You didn't have the dish pointed correctly.

If it is picking up satellites and channels do you think it is still activated?

Yes of course. I'm telling you you don't have the dish pointed in the right direction. Move it. Get a compass. Isn't it SE? You have a tailgater or regular dish?

Went through the same thing recently. Dish just isn't pointed right. If it's even picking up partial channels it's activated

Point it South East. Use a compass. There could be an app for that shiz now a days. A good search in your app store will serve it's purpose

Great, that is what I was hoping for. I was hoping they didn't deactivate it when it started to receive signals. I don't know how they would know since it is not connected via phone or internet.
I have the regular dish. I am hoping it will work so I don't have to buy anything new.

SAToolz is an app I've used.

You probably pay an extra 5$ a month for it. When you activate, it stays activated for a few months after even if you're not using it.
I have the tailgater and it's awesome!! Gets HD and all my at home programming. No pointing/coordinates. Just a clear view of the southern sky. Receiver plugs into tailgater and to wall. Easy and awesome.

If it has been out of the stream too long, it will need to be reauthorized by calling Dish Network. The box will still be able to acquire the signals and download the full program guide, just you will be limited to the Dish help channels like 101

It has not been used for over 2 years.
The tailgater sounds interesting. It costs an extra $5 a month?

499 for the tailgater dish and receiver. Then you pay 5 a month

Going to have to look into that.

Not a problem. Once you get the dish aimed properly, the guide will download and it will autotune to channel 101. Then give them a call and they will turn it on within a few minutes.
Or you can get the tailgater and let it aim itself
Any Dish receiver will need to be reauthorized if it has been out of the stream too long which can be as low as a couple of weeks. I make sure to keep my RV boxes and tailgater box plugged up to the dish in the main house to keep from having to call them tho
