Martinis = gin, obviously. And you must have the proper proportion of vermouth. Those that use only a " breath" of vermouth should just drink straight liquor cause they're not drinking a martini.

So I'm assuming you have a formula for a breath?

I don't think it's "obvious" that a martini is gin. I can find as much documentation saying vodka is fine as I can for gin.

And for what it's worth I drink good gin martinis as well. Matter of fact I am having brunch at Diguilios and will step over some invisible line and have a nice gin martini this morning. Hell, I might have two, I've got a driver.

And I do agree that flavored aren't true.

I'm assuming that it's less than the traditional ratio, but I suppose I could be wrong.

For those of us that are traditionalist prescriptivists, sure it is.

So why don't you consider flavored as true martinis, since I can find just as much documentation saying they are martinis?

As I mentioned, enjoy what you want. I'm really not trying to be a dick about it. I just find the discussion interesting from an academic perspective.
