Anyone here have experience with Alpacas?

Random question, I know.

I've always wanted one. Pow Pow got rid of his cows a few years ago and I'm trying to talk him into buying a small herd of Alpaca

I don't have any experience with them, but I think it is like sheep. You have to shave and maintain their fur even if you are not planning on harvesting it. Sounds like more trouble than it is worth.

If y'all had cows and now just want something interesting to look at, I can sell you some longhorns.

I was on a small ranch in TX talking with the landowner. Needed to cross his pasture that was home to an alpaca. Landowner said "Stay away from that crazy sumbitch - he'll puke on you!"

LLamas hate dogs and coyotes. I've seen farmers with them in their pastures for protection. Not sure about alpacas. I wouldn't waste the time on them. Buy something that'll taste good
