The answer is baseball. It is the only perfect sport.
If you wanted to go with simplicity, then track & field, swimming, cycling, weight lifting, etc all make sense. Who is the fastest? Who is the strongest? Who can jump the highest? Those sports and events measure the core of athleticism.
