Why do I get this movie and the next Avengers movie mixed up? Do they tie in somehow?

They will play this the same as Phase one movie, bits and pieces will be a part of Avengers 2.
Although I think they are waiting on the success of GoG to see if the characters themselves will be involved in any way just yet. I assume they are in play for A3 more so, as that seems to be headed for Thanos territory.
The good thing, is that they never HAVE to cross if Marvel doesn't need them to. I actually think that's a net positive. There are enough properties and great stories to tell in cosmic-land.

In the trailer there is a snippet that shows the Collector (the guy at the very end of the last Thor movie), there's the tie-in. It's probably going to expand on something like Collector trying to either get more Infinity Gems before Thanos or for Thanos. There will be the obligatory after-credits tie to whatever the next movie in the series will be.
