I still consider West Monroe an LSU stronghold. Cam Robinson, a transfer from Ouachita, was the exception, not the norm. However, Saban has some strong ties to the area that can't be discounted. A strong LSU recruiter though will win the day in most cases.
What does that mean, "strong ties"? Does that mean a LA high school football coach (who is probably the biggest influence in a players decision making) has a better relationship, maybe more respect, for Saban than the coach of the flagship university in the state he is in? That sounds like an issue to me. :banghead
Result: some coaches are steering their kids toward Bama?
Solution: punch said coaches in the face!
