I think more than a few LSU fans were on him more than usual too because he was black.

In all the years I've attended games at the Box, going back to the original Alex Box, I've never once heard anyone say anything racial to or about a black player.
The only time I've ever witnessed anyone say anything racial was during the 2000 Super Regional when the pitching coach for UCLA called Shane Youman's parents (who were sitting in the front row next to me in the right field stands by UCLA's bullpen) "monkeys."
The reaction from the LSU fans was swift and aggressive. We started shouting down the UCLA coach, calling him some unkind words. One fan started climbing over the wall to get at the UCLA coach. Security stopped him and the UCLA coach high-tailed it back to his dugout and never came back to the bullpen again.
I've always thought it very ironic that the only racial slur I've ever heard at an LSU baseball game came from a coach whose team's home stadium is named after Jackie Robinson.
