Defensive Talent on 2014 roster rivals 2011

the only area lacking is proven depth at DT, but I think one or two guys from last year's or this year's class will shine. We're stacked at DE not including the guys we brought in last year. We have stars in the defensive backfield at CB and depth at safety - think Jefferson could be a good one. LBS should be strong group next year with the addition of Beckwith and Alexander. Lamar Louis could be very good if the light ever comes on - he's quick and not afraid of contact. Future is bright boys! Thoughts?

You need to be extremely careful saying this type of thing. The 2011 defense is one of the most stacked ever - regardless of team.
I don't see near the talent.
Robinson could become a rock star next year, White is going to be solid and Mills and Collins provide solid depth. We are breaking in new safeties, even if they are highly touted. We have a weak MLB in Welter but I expect Kwon and Debo to be terrific next year. DT is as suspect as it has been in the last decade for the Tigers. A lot of young talent better blossom this year. Our DEs should be strong - a lot of depth and ability.
In short, I think you are wrong.

I think the defense will be solid next year, especially if the DT rotation plays well.
2011 was a loaded at every position except outside LB.

Mills has found a home at one of the safety spots and will do just fine.

Ok, then we need a new NB. Dwayne Thomas would be this guy as it currently stands.

Gotta agree with Lynx. We are too weak and inexperienced up the middle of our D. We will continue to get better throughout the season, but the 2011 defense didnt need much time to improve. They were great in the 1st game of the season

I think Paris or Adams would be terrific in that role but DT always makes plays so keep him there

the 2015 Defense will be way better IMO

This should be true if everyone develops. Good DL = good defense, typically. We will have experience and depth across the entire DL.
CB and S should have starters locked down for game 1 of 2015.
LB will be stacked with Kwon, Debo, Beckwith and Garrett all having PT experience.
White and Robinson will be shutdown corners.
So yes, 2015 should be a closer comparison to 2011 if it all plays out.

I fully expect Welter to surprise a lot of people with his play in 14

I've bashed Welter before but I also agree that he will be a lot better this coming year. He showed signs of hope vs. Iowa.

talent on a roster doesn't always match up to production, mainly because guys are still maturing and finding their way.
I think 14/15 will be a 10/11 type deal. meaning that there's a ton of talent in the way of potential (and maybe even some potential you don't see with a guy like Logan), but it doesn't all come together and dominate until 2015. and that's even if we lose guys like Hunter or Mills early.
consider that all the talent on 2011 was there in 2010, PLUS Peterson, Nevis, and Shepp. but 2010 isn't in the same league as a unit.

Welter could improve 100 fold and still be the worst defensive player in sec history.

Demetrius Hookfin disagrees.

I still don't see Mills. He played really bad in several games last year. I hope he improves but will wait & see.

Yeah... NO!
I was as frustrated as anyone watching Welter appear lost and out of position way too much. Anyone who didn't see flashes of competence bordering on good play towards the end of the season simply didn't want to see it.
Maybe I'm just pulling for the kid because of how badly he gets bashed on here.
