This!

Seriously, I stopped watching 24 hour cable news about 3 months ago and I can honestly say I'm more informed. I make it a point to watch the local news and the 30 minute CBS nightly news. My political views haven't changed, but I feel a whole lot smarter for not getting angry at the TV and watching something more worthwhile.

Now to the OP, take a look at the threads that get the most posts (200+) over the past 3 months. I think you'll find that well over 80% of those threads fall into 3 categories:
1) Gays.
2) Religeon.
3) Race (including immigration reform, voter ID, saint george, and conservatives whining about whatever bullshite Melissa Harris-Perry or Al Sharpton said on MSNBC 20 minutes ago).

I was shocked to take a walk down the previous threads debates surrounding Obamacare, econo-politics or AGW were not higher. There were plenty of these threads, but the threads with the most replies are in the above 3 categories.

It's distressing that as a nation we gravitate towards subjects that don't even matter to their day to day personal lives. I thought that as a board that trends libretarian / conservative there would be more important issues covered but nope, that's apparently what we're interested in as a nation. We are a nation of 7th grade girls.
