No one really wants to listen to actual news for 24 hours a day. It's not the networks that are destroying the news, it's the publics desire to see something entertaining. Hence the panel discussion shows. Until pure facts being spouted out by a news anchor gets ratings, we are stuck with what we have.
I guess I didn't explain my idea sufficiently. I imagined the panel reviewing the nightly news broadcast and proposed stories before they went to the anchor for broadcast. I do not envision the panel appearing on tv.
