Then looking at next year, if you June 1st cut Lofton we save $7 mil, with $2 mil dead money. Hawthorne as a June 1st cut would save $4.5 mil, with $1.5 mil in dead money

11.5mil is no small amount.
Perhaps the FO will tip their hand a bit if we see ILBers being stocked up.

Fortunately, LB is arguably the easiest position to transfer from college to the NFL. Plus, ILB isn't that important position. Lofton was subpar and Hawthorne was bad last season, yet we still had a top 5 defense. Though it would be awesome to have a guy like Mosley in the middle.

Yeah if you add my scenario that gives us $11.2 mil and add in the $11.5 mil that should at least cover anyone we sign this season with some money likely left over.

Add in at least another $9 mil by restructuring Brees next year(more if extended) and we can actually sign a top tier guy.

We really aren't as bad off as it seems on the surface. There are many ways to get room. Of course it comes at the cost of losing guys sometimes, but then you have to ask if you'd rather player x or player y at x price.

Honestly I'm starting to think we may make a run a at least a tier 2 starting corner this year, if not a tier 1 guy depending on how much we push.
